OVERVIEW

NSAID COX
INHIBITION RATIOS

While not completely understood, the mechanism of action of
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) has been
explained by inhibition of prostaglandin enzymes via the
cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) pathways.1

  • COX-1 enzymes are involved in maintaining homeostatic GI, renal and platelet function.8
  • COX-2 enzymes function in the inflammation and pain cascade.8
  • NSAID COX inhibition ratios7

*COX-1/COX-2 ratio values shown are IC80 ratios for WHMA-COX-2/COX-1 (WHMA = William Harvey Human Modified Whole Blood Assay). COX-2/COX-1 ratio values shown are the calculated inverse of IC80 ratios for WHMA-COX-2/COX-1 when reported as <1.
